South America's most advanced planetarium in Rio de Janeiro is a double planetarium. The smaller dome with its ZEISS SPACEMASTER dates back to 1970. It is mainly school classes that dominate the scene here.
The "bigger brother" is a building with a large dome over an inclined auditorium, with exhibit spaces and offices. Carl Zeiss was the main contractor for all of the technical equipment. The projection machine is a UNIVERSARIUM Mark VIII installed on a lift. Behind it is a German made wide-angle movie projector.
